What are you going to be for Halloween?

Me?

I'm going to be a curmudgeon. My porch lights will be off. The lights on the main level will be off.

I will be in the basement; fire in the fireplace, puppies snuggled in, movies, good wine (not necessarily a fine wine, that's expensive ...but a good one) and good food (who knows what that means).

My basement has a sliding glass door and a window into the backyard, but the front is underground so I can be in hiding. I'll have the window open. I'll be able to hear the evening passing by on the sidewalk one unit over to the right. Costumes shuffling, giggles, excitement, crying from exhaustion.....kids and parents; there may be the sound of the predicted rain, the rustling of those leaves that are all over the place.

It will be so nice to hear the sounds and know that the holiday is being celebrated. I'm not overly keen on the holiday itself, but the sounds, smells, and knowledge that I used to do that for my own kids is a good feeling.

Happy Halloween!

I know "Life isn't fair", but.....really? C'mon!!!!

Every November the landscapers in our community will suck up the leaves if we rake them, blow them (the leaves, not the landscapers), or pick them up one by one and put them into the common areas.
Well, I have one Japenese Maple in my backyard. My neighbors have a huge, honkin' regular maple in the backyard which dumps all of its leaves and fargin' gumballs into MY backyard. So, how come I just spent 1.5 hours raking out my backyard (and still have 1/4 of it left to go), and my fargin' neighbor spent 20 minutes and brought out 3 wheelbarrows full. Are you FARGIN' KIDDING ME???? 3 WHEELBARROWS. You may think I'm exaggerating, but really....I'm not!!! I took a picture of my piles, and his little clump of leaves, but I can't find the transfer cord. I'll post them as soon as I find the cord.
I am a 40 year old, 50 lb overweight, single woman with high-blood pressure, asthma, and allergies to the trees from which those leaves came. I have 2 kids, a full-time job, and I go to school. My neighbor is in his 50's, athletic, in great shape, married, no kids, retired military...retired, not working.....
Yanno, 80% of the leaves in my backyard and 100% of the gumballs come from his fargin' tree!!!! But, I sure am glad that he got his 3 wheelbarrows full outta his yard.....And, DON'T EVEN get me started on the front yard!!!

Fall sucks!

Okay. Here are the pics. Guess which one is mine?

Repairs Needed

So many things broken, so little time....

My dryer isn't drying;
My freezer isn't sealing;
My heat pump doesn't turn on.

Then........ there's me!
I have the flu...
Fever;
Chills;
Aches;
Exhaustion;
Raw throat.

I've got space heaters running, my freezer is held closed with duct tape, and I've got laundry all over the place. It hurts when I move, and it's hard to stay awake for too long.

Where's MY Fairy Godmother???!!???

We All Fall Down...

The leaves are falling from the trees, sticking to the roads in the rain, and fluttering around the cars as we drive. Rain is dreary, falling leaves are melancholy, but the season has such great features. The air becomes crisp and fresh, fireplaces are in use and the aroma triggers feelings of comfort. Hot chocolate, hot cereal, and cold toes are all part of the fun.

But the best, truly my favorite part, is Thanksgiving Dinner! I love the turkey, the gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and the deep, rich colors of the perfectly decorated table.

My kids will be in Florida with their father and his family. I will be home without them which is dreary and melancholy, but I still love the season. Happy Thanksgiving!

Tivo Helps!

I really wouldn't be able to keep up with television these days if it wasn't for Tivo. Mine can record 2 shows at the same time or record 1 while I watch another.......as long as it isn't on digital cable stations. Don't worry! I only have the digital for SoapNet, On Demand......that might be it, but I'm not sure. I'll look into that.
So, I can keep up with numerous reality TV shows. If I don't, then it will all be ruined for me because I will hear the results on the radio or online news the next day. Ruining the reality results is akin to disaster.
Here I sit, sipping a lovely Cabernet-Merlot called Hell Raiser, and checking out The Bachelor (already saw tonight's results), Dancing with the Stars (watching now), and The Biggest Loser(ready to watch in the next few minutes).
And, WOW!!!! I must tell you how much I love having my windows open this evening to capture the crispness of the air, the smell of the season..........and the wafting of the cigartettes from my most interesting neighbor who must smoke on her front porch, right next to my window. That's a story for another night!
